Avanesyan, Lilia • Cultuur

2023 , Yerevan (A-C HIS AVAL 2023)

In this book, the issues of the origin and development of the ornamentation and compositional structure of Armenian carpets are examined. Using different collective, comparative and analytical methods and as a result of combining ethnographic, archaeological, bibliographic, and folklore materials, a systematic classification of carpet designs and ornaments was made according to form and content. One of the goals of the work is to show the connection of the Armenian carpets' craft and art, which has a unique place in the ethnocultural tradition, with the periods of economic, political, and spiritual development of Armenia from early agriculture to the Soviet years. During the study, an attempt was made to identify the reasons for the rise and fall of Armenian carpet art. The section on studying the inseparable connection between Armenian carpet art and Armenian spiritual or folk and religious cults and rituals occupies a particularly large place in the book.
